About Amanda Johnson
Bio
It’s all about colour. From the pure brush strokes of my signature flowers to the reflection on the girder work of a mine headframe, colour combines to create a recognisable image.

I was born in 1964 and am a third generation Broken Hill resident. I stayed at Broken Hill High til Year 11, then worked as Paymistress at the South Mine. But I knew it wasn’t what I wanted to do, so I bought a ceramic/folk art studio in 1987. I have taught art ever since.
I have painted my whole life. Colour has always fascinated me. Light and shadow, the core of everything.
My gallery opened in October 2006 in the main street of Broken Hill with my signature on the window. Over the next 3 years of running a commercial gallery and teaching space I met facinating people and fellow art-lovers. The gallery closed in September, 2009.
Fine art works are commissioned regularly. In the three years that I had my gallery doors opened I have been asked to paint a wide variety of subjects. Some of the favorites have been collage paintings of parts of a persons life jigsawed together into the one image. The combinations are always a challenge that I welcome.
My exhibition "Mt. Gipps Series" was opened in August, 2009 and I have completed my latest exhibition "Home Town" over the last nine months. "Home Town" opened at the Broken Hill Regional Gallery on June 4th and runs til July 18th, 2010.
My paintings are spread far and wide, worldwide. Recently, I was pleased to know that a local scene I had painted now hangs in Parliment House.
